The Legend of Phoenix Mountain
Rated PG
An American 9th grade boy named Kyle Tong is always being harassed by his grandfather to practice his Chinese calligraphy and martial arts. His grandfather claims that Kyle was supposed to be “the chosen one” who would wield a great power of intellect and strength to protect the world from a great evil. The problem is that Kyle’s not into that hocus pocus Chinese stuff anymore, especially after his grandmother’s death. Instead, he like American sports, video games, and has a crush on his best friend’s new girlfriend. Finally, Kyle gets fed up with his grandfather’s nagging and tells him off. Instead of backing down, his stubborn grandfather drags him back to China for a coming of age ceremony. Kyle soon finds that the trip is more than a mere returning to his roots when he meets a strange girl who, after kicking his butt a few times in sparring, drags him into a whole new world that he never believed in.

Sora Prime was just starting an average day in 6th grade when she was called to the principal's office. When she gets there, she finds her parents waiting there as well apparently as clueless as she was as to why they had all been summoned to the office. Then the principal broke the news to her. She had been accepted into the Nin Academy, a highly selective training institution based on the Earth's moon that has a reputation for producing the future leaders of humanity. However, when she arrives at the Academy, she feels like there must have been a mistake in the admissions because her classmates were all way ahead of her. Failure after failure tells Sora that she doesn't belong there, but just when she was about the give up on herself, she decides to fight back.

Jin is your average teenage sci-fi geek who spends the summer before his sophomore year volunteering at a local hospital for his community service credits. His sister, a neuroloscientist at the hospital, gives him a special assignment: to watch over a girl suffering from amnesia. He easily falls in love with the bright and mysterious girl, but an accident throws all of Jin's sci-fi fanaticism back into his face in a most disturbing way. (This story started as a short story, but when readers asked me "So what happens next?" I couldn't help but imagine more...^_^)
